The road to hell is paved with good intentions. In this case, all that Matt Davis intended to do was run a 10.90 pass in the PRA Super Comp 10.90 index drag racing class. He got that number in the test 'n tune session, then ran a 10.98 on the last pass that this race car would ever see.
In this clip, Allen Weiss gets lucky and avoids disaster while racing his VW bug, as he slides across the opposite lane and brushes against the wall. The drag strip track crew had just cleaned up an oildown on the previous pass, and it looks like Allen was driving around it when he got out of the groove. The first two passes you'll see were run by Richard Laitinen(?) and Troy Palmer.
