I have a swing axel from a 1968 Sedan. I am considering putting it in my 1956 Oval Sedan. The one currently in it is

geared too low. I've been told all I have to do is add the nose cone and hockey stick from a Type II. However I don't

know what year. Any advise from fellow VW fanatics will be appreciated.

Re: ED Im not sure about 56 however 68 has long axles you may want to swap to 66 or earlier axles short ones ,also this is an 12v trans so if you are using 6v

you need to change starter bushing use adapter bushing 12v to 6 v . nose cone im dont know because im not familer with pre 60 beetles. (n/t) (Gary

i have a 56, just get an early bus nose cone and put it on, the indent for the bolt, where the shift coupler bolts on, is on the bottom instead of the top like a type

1.. the axles will be fine. (n/t) (Dean N.) (15-Jul-2000 10:50:27)

Ed, I put a 66 Swingaxle in my 57 oval. all I had to do was remove the gusset that is on the nose cone. I made a solid mount for mine. The stock mount from a

6o's gearbox should work fine. (n/t) (Jerry Spearn) (15-Jul-2000 17:54:30)
