US delivered cars came with a 3.88 R&P in the single-side-cover trans. Many of these 3.88s have been replaced with 4.12s over the years, so the presence of the one cover doesn't guarantee a 3.88. To test without disassembly, get it in second gear and count input shaft revolutions for one revoultion of the flange. 8 turns is 3.88, and 8.5 turns is 4.12
