IDF Weber needle valves Sunday, 24-Sep-00 07:39:54 195.226.230.34 writes: I noticed the springs inside the float needle valves of my Spanish 44IDF had become very soft. So soft that the floats would bottom out the little balls at the end of the valves with hardly any pressure. The carbs have been on the car for only a couple of years and were new. I have only one spare new needle and seat around, so with patience and determination I changed both springs with two better springs I found in my spring collection. Anyone else have this strange needle valve/ float level problem? mood

Yeah, me too. Mine would drool down the bbl's after shutoff. Major flooding. I dressed the needle "point" in a drill with 1500 grit paper. Made a huge difference. Spring tension would explain alot.... How did you dissasemble the needles? Looks like they're crimped in place... (n/t) (Ohio Tom) (24-Sep-00 15:34:55)

stuck the end of a a drill bit into the ball and wiggled it around, then a bigger bit, recrimped them using a tapered/conical hole I made into a piece of aluminum, finding 2 of the right springs is the problem as stretching them won't work (n/t) (mood) (24-Sep-00 18:15:39)

Has this solved your problem? Would it have solved mine????? (n/t) (Ohio Tom) (24-Sep-00 22:48:13)

I have an electric fuel pump so one carb was flooding in a major way, that's why I opened it up, the flooding is caused by the needle & seat not sealing, the weak ball springs will... (mood) (25-Sep-00 06:30:58)

What's your fuel pressure? (n/t) (Bruce Tweddle) (26-Sep-00 20:40:34)

just cause rich mixture due to high float level. The needle valves still should seal after the floats bottom out the balls. My left carb float was actually was touching the gasket due to the excess travel(it left a slight mark), however it did not overflow. The right float would not reach as far as the gasket when the ball was bottomed out, yet it was leaking like mad. I remember reading on the CLF about someone (you!) dressing their needles and seats with success, mine had some 'micropitting' I rotated it in the seat a few times and it worked. By the way I hadn't run my engine in a few months and I haven't dialed in my mixture yet.
